News and fans' stories Latest news AccessibAll presents at United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Global Sports Programme expert briefing It is estimated that around 1 in 6 people across the globe are disabled, with even higher figures in many regions. Yet too often, accessibility and inclusion are overlooked or left out of the conversation when we talk about safety and security in sport. Ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, AccessibAll was proud to join today’s United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Global Sports Programme expert briefing on Promoting Accessibility and Inclusion as a Core Principle of Sporting Events Security Culture. Participating in the event Michael Rice commented, "When we speak to stadiums architects, one of the key challenged perceived is around safety and security, and particularly ensuring proper evacuation and support for disabled fans. Today was a hugely positive step, about prevention and building awareness on this vital topic, offering guidance and support in finding innovative solutions with our expertise". Michael spoke about AccessibAll's background and experience, including our industry-leading access appraisal programme that has supported over 200 venues across the globe. He also considered smaller changes that can have a transformative impact for disabled people, and the importance of collaboration with public and private organisations to deliver a truly inclusive experience for all. We were honoured to take part, and extend a huge thank you to Alice Bisio and Valerio De Divitiis from the UNOCT for giving us the space. It was a pleasure to share ideas and good practices, helping to make major sporting events inclusive and accessible for everyone in partnership with FIFA, CAF and leaders across the industry.
